Poly-B in Mississauga homes
Polybutylene plumbing was commonly installed in Mississauga homes built between 1978 and 1998. If your home was constructed during this period, there's a possibility it contains poly-B pipes. Many insurance companies in Ontario now have specific policies regarding polybutylene plumbing, including potential surcharges or requirements for replacement. Learn more about poly-B →
Mississauga has more poly-B-era homes than any other GTA suburb in this directory: 94,700 occupied dwellings built 1981–2000, or 38.7% of 244,575, in the 2021 Census. The city’s growth ran from the 1960s through the 1990s and then slowed sharply, with only 7.3% of dwellings dating from 2011 or later, so a very large part of its housing was built in the years poly-B was being installed.
If you own a condominium, the Condominium Authority of Ontario explains that the corporation generally repairs common elements and the standard unit, while owners repair improvements, subject to what the governing documents say (CAO). Ontario plumbers must be certified or registered apprentices (Skilled Trades Ontario). The Toronto & GTA guide compares Mississauga with the rest of the region and lists published Ontario prices.
